‘Repulse’ blasts under the L&Y main line at Walkden on its way to Ashton’s Field

astley green
Astley Green Colliery, 1969. The pit is now an excellent museum, run by volunteers. The colliery closed in 1970, resulting in closure of the last of the once-extensive network of lines based around Walkden Yard.
Gaskell Street, Bolton in 1982. Looking up towards Nelson Mills, some of which remain.
Falcon 3
Falcon Mill, Halliwell in 1983. Fortunately, the mills still stands but doesn’t spin any cotton. It closed in the mid-1980s.
Ancoats in 1981. The area is much-changed but this view is still recognisable
Slaithwaite, in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Lived there for 20 years – lovely place, lovely people
